Our History

Detroit Sausage Company, Inc. has been making the very finest in fresh sausage since 1928.  Owned and operated by the Peters family, our company has always thrived on providing customers with the highest quality of product and service while maintaining our excellent prices.  We believe in preserving strong relationships with both our customers and our distributors.

Detroit Sausage Company is located in Detroit's Historic Eastern Market and is a USDA inspected facility.  We are most famous for our Original Pork Breakfast Sausage, also nicknamed "Blue" for that unmistakable blue checker-board box.  Detroit Sausage Company also specializes in other classics, such as Italian, Polish and Chorizo Sausages, as well as specialty products, like Chicken Italian, Cheese and Wine Italian and Turkey and Cherry Breakfast Sausages.  Please view our product list for more information.  Our products are distributed to restaurants, hotels and retail suppliers all over the Midwest by food service and wholesale distributors.


In 1998, the Peters family acquired Smith Meat Packing Company and LKL Packing Company.  Smith Meat Packing specializes in the production of bacon, ham and other smoked meats and is located in Port Huron, Michigan.  LKL Packing is located in Detroit's Eastern Market and is a distribution point for both Detroit Sausage and Smith Meat Packing.

With the addition of Smith Meat Packing and LKL Packing, we can provide our customers with the very best in both fresh and smoked meats.
